In April, Mayor Bloomberg released a long term plan for New York City “PlaNYC: A Greener, Greater New York” 127 separate initiatives to combat climate change and improve our City’s infrastructure. The scale and efficiency of New York City’s transportation network has always been a key to its growth and vitality, but transportation could be a constraint in the future unless mass transit is expanded and strengthened and traffic congestion is reduced. The current transportation network is also a source of much of the pollution that threatens our ability to ensure a vital and sustainable environment for the city in the future.

ROHIT AGGARWALA, DIRECTOR OF MAYOR’S OFFICE OF LONG-TERM PLANNING AND SUSTAINABILITY, will discuss the specific proposals in PlaNYC that will meet the transportation needs of a growing New York while reducing the impact of the transportation network on the environment, including bringing the existing transit system to a state of good repair, investing to provide more and better transit options, and reducing congestion on the city’s streets.
