Warm plan to save energy

HOMEOWNERS in Harrow can get a 70 per cent discount on loft and wall insulation following the launch of a £10million scheme.

Harrow Council has joined up with London Warm Zone, an extension of EDF Energy, to offer the discount which is designed to save energy and tackle climate change. Loft insulation could prevent the release of more than 1.4 tonnes of carbon per year and should save homeowners around £220 annually.

Wall insulation could cut heating bills by more than 30 per cent.

Councillor Susan Hall, environment services portfolio holder, said: "We look forward to helping people make a real difference in the fight against climate change, while lowering the energy bills of Harrow residents." People aged 70 and over and homeowners receiving an income or disability benefit are entitled to free installations under the scheme. Homeowners receiving other benefits will also be entitled to grants for heating upgrades and new central heating systems.
